Sixth Grade | Seventh Grade

Students will be analyzing the role of visual arts in past and present cultures throughout the world. They will be learning about art technique and artists that correspond to what they are learning in both social studies and language arts. They will be challenged to create innovative solutions to design problems presented to them and will continue to work in their sketchbooks. The students will also be creating many of the visual elements for the medieval faire and delve into art of that time period.

Students will be introduced to the following:

• Drawing - contour, value, form and proportion
• Sketchbook - they will continue with this non-directed activity
• Art vocabulary and art history
• Color theory
• Careers in art
• The process of illumination, frieze, canvas, mosaic, and printing
• Graphic arts and design
